Happy New Year! It seems like only a few days ago I was tacking up my new 2010 calendar, and now it’s the middle of January.

We’ve been busy so far  getting ready for our annual Project Homeless Connect. We are excited to be working with Acts Christian Fellowship for yet another year, and to have all of our service providers in one location to help those living in homelessness easily find the services they need. Our committee has worked feverishly to make this event the best one ever. Thank you to all those who have served on the PHC 2010 committee and to our chairperson, Mike Ormsby, for your hard work in putting this year’s event together. It is almost here!

It’s been a busy January to launch us in to a great 2010. I look forward to seeing you all at our meeting on Friday!

Project Homeless Connect is Jan. 28th!
It’s almost here! Project Homeless Connect 2010 is just around the corner! This year’s event offers the same great services from years past plus additions such as vision care from Lenscrafters,  pet care from the Animal Birth Control Clinic, and on-site resume writing assistance and job training. 

If you are interested in having a free booth at this year’s event, please e-mail projecthomelessconnectwaco@gmail.com for more information.

We are still in need of volunteers for the event! If your organization would like to participate, please e-mail Chelle Samaniego at chelles@ci.waco.tx.us or call her at 254-750-5967 to get set up.

VISTAs needed for HOTHC
The Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition is looking for Volunteers in Service to America to serve at the coalition and at our member agencies. All VISTAs receive a stipend for their service. If you would like more information about serving, please visit www.americorps.gov or e-mail Chelle Samaniego.

HPRP presentation this Friday
Are past debts preventing your clients from becoming housed? Help may be available through the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program. Find out more about HPRP at this month’s HOTHC meeting. Kate Jauch with The Salvation Army will lead a special presentation at our meeting on Friday, January 15th at 11:45 a.m. at the Heart of Texas Council of Governments located at 1514 S. New Road in Waco. Joining Kate will be Rachel Svrchek from the City of Waco, Gloria Martinez from Catholic Charities of Central Texas, and Buddy Edwards with Caritas. Together they will explain eligibility requirements and answer any questions that you may have.

To attend, please RSVP to chelles@ci.waco.tx.us by Wednesday afternoon to guarantee your lunch.
